I went to Beat Kitchen with the intent of watching Brian's band's show, but instead mostly just talked to people. Steven and Maya bought me drinks. (Heh. The last time we all hung out together, Maya and I couldn't get into bars!) I met Brian's friend Lane, and we talked for a really long time. He was wearing an I Am Loved button; I noticed it right away but didn't happen to say anything about it. Later, I went to the bathroom. When I came back, Maya handed me the button and told me that Lane had had to leave, but he'd wanted me to have it.
You know, people are all right.
I was going to post the lyrics to "I Remember Everything", but it's just not quite right. Maybe I better write a new one.
I waited until door met door
and I was sure you had gone
And then I swayed and sang in the elevator
All the way down
Rushing down Sherman to MAB
Breathless on the crooked stairs
Reaching for the most familiar keys
Reverting to type again
You must have caught me sitting up straight
Instantly no longer bored
Trying slightly harder to concentrate
Failing at it slightly more
No excuse to communicate
No use in being heard
But we're both still hoping
Both still reloading
Still hanging on every word
Y'know, Brian still gives me that strange "we're in high school" vibe. Maybe because he reminds me so much of Justin Kurth, and the bad sort of outweighs the good. But, I had fun, there wasn't any weirdness, and the Nix played a pretty kickass show. Too bad you couldn't catch more of it, but there will always be more shows.
Lane seems cool.
But I think that it's more a surface thing, in his cadence of speech and the way he dresses and so on. In personality, I don't think they're that similar.
I definitely want to go see the Nix again. And yeah, Brian and Lane and all those guys are cool. =)
Shit! I think I was going to go to that show meself! I was picked up by a friend, we thought we were going to that show, but instead we went elsewhere, mysteriously.
Ahh, such is life.
Dude, that would've been crazy. I think that sometimes Steve and David get the mistaken impression that everyone in Chicago knows each other, and if you had turned up, it would only have reinforced that!
You should go to a Nix show sometime, though. You'd like it.
