The courageous one

We need an account manager at work -- someone who can take over where our three salespeople leave off, after they get done selling. We need this person very badly.

Twice now we've tried to hire someone to do it. The first was around the time of our holiday party in January. Jen. She was a bit of a flake, I guess, but she was there, and account manager was her job title. She worked for us for maybe a week and then mysteriously disappeared. Dom sent out an email saying that she was no longer with the company. I don't have any idea what happened, and neither do most of my co-workers. It was rather scary.

So. After lots of interviews, we finally hired someone new this week. Her name was Kim. She was set to start yesterday. She showed up for the Monday morning meeting. She sat down at the meeting table with everyone else, and remained there silently as Jay proceeded to rant, pontificate, and bitch various people out for three hours, because that's what the Monday morning meeting is. I'm not sure what she did in the afternoon, but this morning she was gone. Finished.

Jay treated it like a joke today, of course. He was all, "What would you say I was yesterday, an eight point five on the prick scale? You've all seen worse."

Earlier today, I was feeling smug, like, "I'm not scared; I can handle Jay -- why can't she?" But the more I think about it, the less I'm sure that I'm the courageous one.

At the end of the day today, when only Dom, Jay, and I were left, Jay pointed out, "I've never scared Lindsey off." He said, "How come I didn't terrify you, Lindsey?" I laughed and said, "I'm beyond terror," and they laughed.

I should have told them the truth: I started on a Tuesday.
