Infinity minus one. Improbability sum now complete. [Apr. 11th, 2005|06:42 pm]
Lindsey Kuper

I've found that carrying around Pam zerbie's copy of The More than Complete Hitchhiker's Guide is a great way to get random strangers to start conversations with you. It's also good to read. I've finished the titular book and have moved on to The Restaurant at the End of the Universe...which means that today, years later, I finally understand what Chris underwhelm was referencing that time when he wrote, "Your parents are so cool you could keep a side of meat in them for a month. They're so hip they have difficulty seeing over their pelvises."

My long monument to cultural ignorance is collapsing in a sudden pile of hey, that was a Wilco lyric! and hey, that's a Douglas Adams quotation!

Tear down the wall.

I think it's the book-carrying in combination with the Metra-riding.

Indeed. It happened when I was sitting in the Portland airport the other day, too, though.

Ah yes, and the terminal-sitting. Last time I did any serious terminal-sitting, which was in Burbank, California, I struck up a conversation with a guy who was wearing the same Van Halen shirt as me. Clearly, our love was meant to be.

This reminds me of:

Sitting together in airports
Sharing a fabulous quest

These are lyrics by a female jazz songwriter. I wish I could remember her name or the rest of the song. It's a great song, and Google is no help.
