Why I'd make a terrible economist. [Dec. 8th, 2004|08:26 pm]
Lindsey Kuper

Quality vodka costs around $20 per liter. Quality orange juice, around $2 per liter.

And yet, as I was about to pour myself a glass of orange juice tonight, I decided to pour in some vodka first, thinking, "It'll make the orange juice last longer."

Did I put the fear of spending money on OJ into you with my idle comment about drinking water? I mean, my neuroses about the price of juice are okay for me...

Actually, I think that good orange juice is worth the price. But the water-first thing is a good idea...then you can actually savor the taste of the OJ, instead of just quenching your thirst with it.

I won't drink my orange juice without.
Sometimes, I have to go and buy vodka, thinking "the orange juice is going to go bad."

low quality vodka costs USD10 (my keyboard is dolla-sign deficient, let's just say £20) and, according to an article i read linked from janelle raborn's plan, low-quality vodka filtered through a charcoal filter (like brita) four or five times tastes like high quality vodka.

I need to try that! But I don't want to put vodka through the Brita I use for water, so you'd also have to account for the cost of a new Brita-type thing...
