If I write it down here, then I have to do it [Oct. 14th, 2010|09:48 am]
Lindsey Kuper

Yesterday morning in the shower, I hit on the perfect Halloween costume idea. For Halloween, I want to be the first, and heretofore only, member of the entirely fictional School of Informatics and Computing roller derby team. Things I'll need:

  • leggings
  • ...under torn-up fishnets
  • ...under stripey knee socks
  • roller skates
  • ludicrously tiny shorts
  • possibly also a tutu
  • knee pads
  • elbow pads
  • wrist guards or wristbands or something
  • fingerless gloves
  • a couple of layers of shirt or tank top, featuring...
  • an awesome and suitable derby name and number and maybe some art
  • a helmet, appropriately decorated
  • pigtails
  • maybe some hair dye
  • lots of makeup, with e.g. stickers and glitter
  • stuff sharpie'd onto my arms

The skates and the pads will probably be the most expensive to procure, although maybe I can borrow them from someone. The shirt will probably be the hardest -- I need to figure out how to either make a shirt or have one made. But I think I can have this ready in time for the Mad Scientist Ball. I have two weeks! I need your ideas and your help!

You just need to find a way to make it nonfictional. It's not like I don't already know other grad student derby dames! A team of computer scientists would be awesome, and in honor of Dan, you should call it "Lambda Lambda Lambda" :P

But, yes, as a costume idea, it's totally awesome :)

I want to go with a name that's more generally CS, rather than PL-specific. (The audience at this party tends to be science and math grad students but not necessarily CS people. I don't know if they'll get CS jokes, and they'll almost certainly not get PL jokes.)

I like Stack Smashers also.

I am thinking about it, and then I realized I've been in PL too long, as I'm having problems thinking of non-PL things. ARGH.
