On Friday, two days from now, Alex oniugnip and I are packing up our stuff and moving to New York. We'll arrive in Ithaca on Friday night, move into my sublet, drive to NYC on Saturday, and move Alex into his sublet. We're going to a concert that night, and then I'm driving back to Ithaca on Sunday. Both my internship and the class I'm taking will start on Monday. Every weekday for six weeks, I'll have class at 8:30 a.m. before work.
I was going to make a joke that the last time I had to be somewhere every weekday at 8:30 a.m., I was too young to legally purchase alcohol. I just remembered, though, that be-at-work-at-8:30 was precisely the policy at my first job out of school. I'm hoping that the new-job and new-environment adrenaline will be enough to power me through it this time, too. Right in the middle of those six weeks, Team K&R is planning to return for a third year of utterly crushing all challengers in the ICFP contest, which for us will run from 8:00 a.m. on Friday, June 18 to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 21. Technically, I can do the whole contest and still go to work on that Monday. In fact, technically, I can do the whole contest and still go to class on that Monday. Whether that will be a good idea is another question.
In the meantime, tonight may be my last chance to relax in a while. We're both a little sore from running and playing frisbee yesterday, and Alex has been playing Humble Bundle games while I've been curled up on the couch reading Stop Forgetting to Remember, a good story for a trip to New York. Tomorrow will be for reading papers to get ready for my internship project...and for packing. How the hell do you pack for thirteen weeks?
