It's going to be hard to explain why this is so great. [Jun. 22nd, 2009|12:09 am]

I just had a great phone conversation with my parents. I had called my dad in honor of Father's Day, but my mom got on the phone and started asking questions about my research this summer, during which my dad was bored out of his mind. Eventually, I start to sense that this is the case.

Lindsey: You know, over the phone it's not always easy to tell if you guys are bored out of your minds or not.
Mom: Well, we need to develop some sort of signal.
Lindsey: *laughing* Yeah. When you give the signal, I can stop talking about most general unifiers or whatever and start talking about, I don't know, the weather.
Mom: I think the signal needs to evoke eye-rolling.
Lindsey: *laughs harder*
Dad: Here's the 'signal': 'Shut the fuck up!'
Lindsey: *laughs uproariously*
Mom: *makes noises of mock exasperation*
Lindsey: Okay, that was awesome.

I love my parents so much. I'm so much their kid.

I think it's more correct to say I sound like them. Actually, this reminds me of a good story. Way back in 2001, when we were helping organize a Smashing Pumpkins tribute concert, my friend Josh brandyszero asked Billy Corgan's dad, Bill Sr., who is also tall and bald, "Does it bother you when people say you look like Billy?" Bill Sr. immediately said, "Yeah! That drives me crazy!" or something like that. He went off and talked to Billy. A few hours later, when Billy came out and talked to the audience, he said, "Oh, and by the way, my dad wants everyone to know that he doesn't look like me; I look like him." Josh was well pleased.

Sorry -- the only movies I've seen this summer have been Up and Hangover. Both recommended, though.

Aarthi, I can't compete with your rate of media consumption! I surrender!

Although I'm up for watching Trek with you at some point, on the condition that we have to drink once for every CGI'd lens flare.

I don't think it's hard to explain at all. That's hilarious! :D

Oh, good. I thought folks might see this and think "Oh, my God, your parents are so mean!", or something.
