Think I'd rather have the cold. [Feb. 23rd, 2009|06:01 pm]
Lindsey Kuper

I was just reading something posted in the library restroom about how to avoid catching a cold. The advice more or less amounted to:

  • Avoid human beings.
  • Don't share.

I don't remember the last time I went a whole month without getting sick.

I like to lick sick people and eat things I find on the street (both have happened) and I seem to be at least above average on the health-o-meter.

Library bathroom FAILS.

Wash hands and wear a surgical mask and you reduce your chances of contracting the cold virus. Also, never touch your eyes with your hands. Rubbing virus directly into your eyes lets it walk right in the front door.

I haven't had a cold in over a year or more.

I noticed lots and lots of folks wearing surgical masks in public in Tokyo, and a fair number in Sapporo and Kyoto too. Here, it would get you laughed at.

Washing hands frequently and not touching your eyes--both key. Also getting enough sleep and eating right, to keep up your natural defenses. I heard once that there are at least 200 different cold viruses. Maybe you build immunity to each one you get a cold from, so it just takes time.
