Barack Obama: candidate of kayakers! [May. 18th, 2008|04:40 pm]

Obama rally in Portland

Thirty thousand 75,000 people attended today's Barack Obama rally in Portland. Some were in kayaks.

(Oh, the speech? It was good, although not as exciting as the one I saw him give in March. However, that may have been because my view of him was entirely blocked by the tree.)

Yeah, you're right. Matt pointed this out, too. I got the 30,000 number from his own speech. Perhaps that's how many they were expecting based on website RSVPs.

I don't have any intuitive sense of what 75,000 human beings look like, as opposed to 30,000. Do I have any hope of ever grokking larger numbers?

some say it was closer to 100k (if you count the 15k that waited outside.

I think he's exhausted and that's why his speech was luke warm.

I was thinking the same thing. I bet he and everyone on his staff's ready for this thing to be over with already.

When musicians go on tour, nobody expects them to come up with new and exciting stuff on every stop, but it's still draining. This has got to be a hundred times harder.
