As the only actual farmer's daughter in the known universe, agriculture-related questions tend to get shunted to me. At SNDC this week, Mike jonatthebar, Roy
royhuggins, and Electra
eliciel asked me what the deal was with farm subsidies. I answered as well as I knew how, which wasn't very well, and because I'm bad at faking answers to things but good at ranting about things that piss me off, I ended up just sort of going off about ethanol and drainage tile and "natural" flavoring and not really answering the questions anyone asked, although maybe answering some they didn't ask.
Today, though, it occurred to me that if you really want to know something about subsidization -- and a lot of other stuff about how our food production and distribution system (mal)functions in this country -- you should see this documentary. It's got my mom's recommendation, and she would know.
