I might have won NaBloPoMo! I might be a little bit proud of myself! And it's possible that I maybe might have stopped at the Fireside on my way home from northwest so that I could do it!

Sure, a lot of this ended up being filler. But, as with NaNoWriMo, maybe the point is sort of to write so much that you just can't help but produce something good, even if it's surrounded by crap. I think I wrote some worthwhile stuff. I gained a few new readers, too. That part's cool.

All the same, though, I'm relieved to be done. I don't have time for this blogging stuff! I've got spring courses to push! I've got statements of purpose to write! I've got boys to go out with! Hey!

And I almost won, but not totally. I didn't have a single thing to say about OpenID.

There's no place quite like the Fireside. There always seems to be a weird mix of people -- high-school kids playing board games, old ladies playing cards, cops on the night shift, college kids studying -- and I've occasionally seen people walk through the door and be confused, like, "What's going on here?" Once I actually heard someone ask the barista, "What the hell is this place?", and she deadpanned, "It's a coffee shop."

The food is by no means special, but the coffee's great and the chairs are comfortable. My only complaint is that the fluorescent lighting (you can kind of see it in some of the pictures) can be hard on the eyes, especially after you've been there for a long time.

Ooh, I have something to add to that. This analogy won't make sense unless you've been to the Old Pharmacy, the other 24-hour coffee place I know of.

The Fireside is to the Old Pharm as southeast is to northwest: Less hip; more age-diverse; and rather tackier, but it's home.
