|Drinko de Mayo 2006! The Quickening!
||[May. 8th, 2006|11:43 am]
- We decided to call the band Tryst.
- Our first show is at 4928 SE 74th, Portland, at 8 p.m. this Saturday, May 13th. Yes, this is my house. Gotta start somewhere.
- The Jigsaw Gentlemen, Douglas Shepherd, and Chris Corbell will be playing. There's also going to be a belly dancer! I think it might be this person. Probably a couple kegs, too. Suggested donation of $2.
- Indigo indy1725 Kelleigh made a beautiful flyer for us. Larger version later. Flyering tonight. Let me know if you are in Portland and would like to help.
I was going to leave a congratulatory comment and then I realized... I could actually go to this! Internet... real life... universes fusing...!
I will try to do so.
As long as you introduce yourself as "Leigh from the Internet", I probably won't be too confused!
Is it not the cutest thing you've ever seen? Also, it reminds me vaguely of a Decemberists album cover.
Can I show up?
And, do you think be doing some freestyling would be out of place?
"Can I show up?" the boy says. Seriously, if you don't stop asking me for permission to do things which do not require my permission, I might just start saying no. Of course you can show up.
It's iffy about the freestyling, though. I think we were hoping to be done with the PA sooner rather than later, since this is a residential neighborhood and we don't want our neighbors to be mad at us, and it's already going to be difficult squeezing in four bands.
I usually freestyle acapella and unamplified. With some MC bragging, I have to say that I've practiced freestyling a lot, and some people find it rather entertaining. But with realism, I have to say my freestyling (or perhaps just freestyling in general) annoys some people.
I have no doubt of your ability. To be totally honest, though, I think it would be out of place at this particular event. Maybe we can have freestyle/slam poetry night some other time, though!
yay for band names and first shows and fun flyers!
Yes. Adventures like this are why I'm here.
And now, we attempt to soundproof the living room windows!
Oooooh awesome. Congrats. I don't think that you need it, but it can almost never go admiss: Good luck!
I thought that you should know that Tryst was a prog-metal band around the San Fran bay area in the mid-late 80's. Just so you know what sort of reputation you have to live up to. ;)
Hope you are well, and good luck Saturday!
Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. There's also a group in NYC
called Tryst. Not to mention a bar band in Michigan
Can't you just see the Onion "Community Voices" article entitled "I Can't Believe You Stole My Awesome Band Name"?
I randomly found this posting because I own a new comic book store right down the street from where you live. Our store is at 64th and Foster. But, I live at 78th and Foster. Indy Kelleigh came into our store tonight to pick up some books. After he left, I realized I had forgot to tell him something. I went to his website & saw your flyer on his web page and got excited. I think it's great that you're having a show in our neighborhood! Good luck! I hope no one in the neighborhood freaks or anything!
Hi there! I know your store, I've been by there a few times and keep meaning to go in. I'll swing by tomorrow afternoon with a flyer for you.
it's Leigh, from Reed.
