Hi guys,

TextDrive is fantastic -- the best hosting I've ever had -- but I'm only signed up for a month and I'm not sure I'll be able to continue to afford it.

If I stop hosting with TXD and at some point in the future start again, will I have to pay the setup fee again?

Hi Lindsey,

Sure, if you like we can disable the account for you and reenable it later without going through the signup process. Just file a ticket to let us know. FYI, your next bill will come due on 23 February.

Best regards,

Dean Allen

Seriously, how cool is TextDrive?

Depending on how downloads continue to go (but don't stop downloading!), I might move Shoebox over to someone else (like DreamHost) who can give me more bandwidth for cheaper. But I don't have to like it.

And why was Dean working at two a.m.? Oh, wait, so was I.

I've used 14.5% of allowance for the month.

Can you supply a number? :)

I don't really want to supply numbers. People are being so cool to download my stuff or subscribe to my feed; I want to show my appreciation for them on an individual basis, not as a number.

Oh, okay. I was just asking because we have tons of bandwidth on my server. I can give you hosting with a lot of pretty good data transfer -- I just wanted to check on how much you're using before I offer. :)

Oh, thanks -- I really appreciate it, but I think I want to try and swing it on my own for a while. See "moving out of parents' house" discussion, below. Heh.

Sure. Sounds right. :) We host MP3s for MC Frontalot, so that's gotten me all up on hosting music. Good luck with the search. ;)

I actually *like* Dreamhost. I think their admin panel thing is kickass, and yes, they are mad inexpensive (but Obsidian Hosting is free.)

Oh, I think DreamHost does a great job. But...the TXD-love!

As far as Obsidian goes, well...they kick ass, but I think of it this way: I just stopped piggybacking off Mom and Dad's hosting, and I view that as the equivalent of moving out of your parents' basement and into your own place. Using obhost is like moving out of your parents' basement, onto your friend's couch. It might be an extremely nice couch, but still.

Dreamhost gave me 21GB of webspace and 1 TB of transfer for about 9 bucks a month. If you sign up with them and list "bluemagister" as the referring ID, I get 97 bucks.

If you choose Dreamhost, your bandwidth and disk space grow week by week.

I knew about their referral program, but ninety-seven dollars? How's that work?
