New year; new journal [Jan. 1st, 2016|11:45 pm]
Lindsey Kuper

Right now, it's winter where I live, and I'm sitting on the floor, wrapped in a blanket on top of the heat vent to stay warm, wearing ill-fitting pants. Except for this laptop, I could still be a ten-year-old child in rural Iowa in 1993. But, in fact, this is suburban California, it's 2016, and I'm a thirty-three-year-old computer scientist who lives with another thirty-three-year-old computer scientist who also just finally switched to Dreamwidth. There is a hole in our bathroom ceiling, the unfortunate result of water damage from a leaky roof that is supposedly now in the process of being repaired. This is the second place we've lived where ceilings have fallen apart as a result of water damage, and I hope that we will one day live in a house where that doesn't happen, and that, when we do, I will be neither too old nor too dignified to sit on the heat vent wrapped in a blanket.

I sit on the radiators all the time. I figure if it's good enough for the cat, it's good enough for me.

The real question is, why am I wearing pants at all?

i suppose it depends on your heaters, as mine actually can get pretty hot. A layer of cloth between it and my skin is sometimes necessary.
