Aaaah! How dare you make a mockery of EMACS and its beautiful font?

I mock because I love.

Ah, yes. I've been using that version for quite a while. I like to use it with 12pt Bitstream Vera Sans Mono.

By the way, unicode support via xft was merged into the trunk a few weeks ago. It's possible that Hardy Heron or a future backport may support this out of the box which would be nice.

Over Christmas, I somewhat tentatively installed Ubuntu on my mom's laptop that had a beyond-repair borked XP install on it... I figured it was worth a shot, since it was going to be wiped anyway.

While I don't think she could have gotten it fully operational herself (getting WiFi and real video drivers to work required enabling non-open source drivers, which Ubuntu doesn't do by default, and doesn't tell you about unless you look for it), I got it all going within a couple hours... even her Verizon EVDO card, which surprised me.

She's still loving it, and I feel better knowing it isn't going to get filled with all the cruft and malware that parental Windows machines always seem to pick up. It's mom-approved!
