smile and move it back [Jan. 20th, 2007|09:04 pm]
Lindsey Kuper

So, I'm sitting here at Palio, reading Plans, and a guy who's waiting in line leans over and says, "You smile a lot. It's really cool."

I laugh. "I'm reading a funny story that my friend wrote, so."

He goes, "Well, it's not even that; it's that every time the table gets bumped, you just smile and move it back."

Then we had a conversation about quantum physics.

Portland, blah blah, best place ever, etc.

Oh hell yes. But also, Palio is just good for that. I had a great conversation in French with a random guy who shared my table at Palio. We talked about politics.

I think they have the right idea with the big tables. They're big enough so that you can sit at them with other people without feeling like you're invading their personal space, yet cozy enough that it's easy to strike up a conversation with a stranger.
